This article is about the Higurashi Abridged series known as "When the Higurashi Cry Abridged" by Studio Weeb 07.

History

Studio Weeb 07 was founded in late October of 2020. Shortly after, production of When the Higurashi Cry Abridged began. The series was inspired by Faulerro’s Onikakushi Abridged, & ManiacWednesdaysVA’s Higurashi Abridged.

Production

Chapter 1: Onikakushi was being written while initial casting was going on. Early into production, Dima Lancaster’s 2020 cover of Higurashi When They Cry was selected as the opening theme.

On April 27th, 2021, Studio Weeb 07 released the series’ first trailer, which featured two early versions of scenes from Chapter 1. These scenes would later be shortened & re-recorded for the final episode.

On October 26th, 2021, Studio Weeb posted an announcement video which announced Chapter 1 would be premiering the next day. However, due to copyright claims from the original series’ distributor, the chapter's appearance on YouTube was ultimately delayed until it finally released on December 23rd, 2021.

Chapter 2’s production was kept mostly quiet until it was announced after a hiatus on February 10th, 2023 that Chapter 2 would be releasing on February 13th, 2023.

Chapter 3’s announcement video was released on August 30th, 2023, with the full episode premiering a few days later on September 4th, 2023. Notably, this episode’s preview marked the official opening of Studio Weeb 07’s official Discord server, where a watch party for the episode’s premiere, as well as a QnA with some of the cast, was held.

During the aforementioned QnA, Kingsidecastle13 confirmed that both Chapter 4 and Chapter 5 are currently in production.

Trivia

• Chapter 1: Onikakushi was meant to be released as a singular video. However, due to YouTube’s automatic Content ID system, it had to be re-edited & split into four parts. The original single video still exists on the Studio Weeb 07 Facebook Page, & was split into two parts on their Dailymotion.
• In Chapter 3: Tatarigoroshi the ending was animated to match the visual novel's ending.
• Chapter 3: Tatarigoroshi also restored a fan-favorite sequence that was cut from the original anime known as “1500 Seconds”
