Trivia

  • This episode, released in August/September 2018, was the first video of the series since Plan to Eradicate Christmas (released December 2017) and the first proper episode since episode 59 (released June 2017), ending the longest hiatus in the history of the series.
  • At over 1 hour in length, this episode is the longest in the entire series, including movies and specials. Each part on its own is longer than most episodes.
  • This episode follows the same format as the season 1 and 2 finales: consisting of 3 parts, released about a week apart.
    • Something different about this episode however is that each part has the disclaimer read by a different character (Gohan in part 1, Goku in part 2, and Cell in part 3) and each part has its own title, in addition to the overall episode title (Cell-Out).
  • The episode's title follows the pattern of the previous few episodes of including a cell pun. Each part's title is a part of the life cycle of a cell, referencing something that happens in each part:
    • Part 1: Mitosis (cell division), referencing Cell creating the Cell Jrs.
    • Part 2: Apoptosis (natural and controlled death of a cell), referencing Cell self-destructing.
    • Part 3: Necrosis (death a cell due to external causes), referencing Gohan defeating Cell.
  • This episode contains several callbacks to previous episodes:
    • Krillin mentions Team Three Star.
    • Gohan squeaks like a chew toy when being crushed, just like Goku.
    • The Cell Jr., Vegeta Jr. Jr. speaks a lot like Ghost Nappa.
    • "Please don't break my arm." "No." (Lord Slug)
    • Gohan tells Cell, "You're boring me" like Goku said to Freeza.
    • Cell reprises his song "P is for Perfect" from episode 51.
    • Goku tells Gohan to "eat that horse" (Episode 45).
    • Krillin mentions Popo's training.
    • Trunks makes a reference to King Yemma's mahogany desk (episode 3) and not keeping your clothes when you die (episode 28).
    • Yamcha comments "Gay!" towards Tien and Chiaotzu (Episode 6).
  • The Cell Jrs. (with the exception of Vegeta Jr. Jr., who is named after the Saibaman Vegeta Jr.) are all named after voice actors for Cell across various media: Norio Wakamoto (Japanese), Dameon Clarke (FUNimation dub), Travis Willingham (some video games), Curtis Arnott (DBZ Abridged), Dale Wilson (Westwood dub), and Jonathan David Cook (Animaze dub).
  • Krillin Owned Count:
    • 37-39 - Krillin is kicked to the ground by a Cell Jr. and twice more while he's down.
    • At the end of the episode, Krillin has sex with Android 18, which begins subtracting from the counter. When it reaches 1, Krillin shoots a Scattering Bullet as he climaxes, which destroys the counter.
  • Gohan comments that being "down an arm and killed by an Android" feels "oddly familiar", a reference to how he dies in Trunks' timeline, shown in the History of Trunks.
  • As Cell is dying, he sings Frank Sinatra's "My Way", mirroring how he first appeared in his perfect form by performing a musical number.

Quotes

Gohan: I know why I'm here. I know why my dad threw me to the biggest wolf in the woods.
Cell: (chuckling) Oh, trust me. I'll huff and puff and blow you down.
Krillin: He's 11!
Cell: I'm 6!
Krillin: Wow.

(Cell shoots a Death Beam at Gohan.)
Krillin: That's Freeza's move! The one he killed Vegeta with! Remember that, Vegeta?
Vegeta: I was there.
Krillin: Should really watch out for that.
Vegeta: Didn't Freeza blow you up?
Krillin: Whoa-ho-ho, yeah!
Vegeta: "Then you should really watch out for that!" That's you.

(Cell begins blowing himself up to self-destruct.)
Jimmy Firecracker: Hey Larry, look. It's your mother!
Larry: She's diabetic, dude!
Jimmy: Yeah, 'cause she's fat!
Larry: She lost a foot.
Jimmy: And now she's 50 pounds lighter.

(Android 18 has just regained consciousness.)18: Where am I? What happened? Where's Cell?
Piccolo: On the Lookout, Gohan killed Cell, and...Gohan killed Cell.
18: What's the Lookout?
Krillin: It's where God lives.
Dende: What up?
18: Ok wow, you're throwing a lot at me here.
Krillin: Also, I'm in love with you.
18: And that's my limit.

(Krillin has wished for Shenron to turn the Androids back into humans.)
Shenron: That wish is beyond my power.
Krillin: Bullshit!
Shenron: Look, I don't make the rules.
Krillin: Then who does?!
Mr. Popo: Hi.
Krillin: Because they are incredibly fair and balanced.
