Fake/kaleid liner Prisma Illya is an abridged parody series of the 2013 anime by DoktorApplejuce. The first episode was initially created for April Fool's Day as a one-shot, and served as an opportunity to experiment with a more off-the-walls style of humor than DoktorApplejuce was used to writing.

Writing for the first episode began in February of 2017. It wasn't until halfway through the script that Ivan LeRoy, who had recently begun collaborating with Dok on an Evangelion parody, joined the writing process.
The original intent was to have ThePetiteOtaku, who played Illya in Dok's Fake/Stay Night (Unlimited Blade Works) parody, reprise her role for Prisma Illya. However, due to computer malfunctions, she was unable to record in time for an April 1st release date. It was then decided to recast the role to a male voice actor, in order to prevent any misconceptions that the role of Illya was to be recast in Fake/Stay Night (Unlimited Blade Works) as well. CharlestonVO was first approached for the role, however due to renovations taking place in his house, he was unable to record on time as well. DoktorApplejuce then reached out to Coffinjockey, who was the first male voice actor alphabetically on Dok's Discord friends list, who was also online at the time, who accepted the role and was able to record that day.
Although the first episode was released as a one-shot, an idea for a 2nd and 3rd episode was conceived, and the script for the 2nd episode began being written in September of 2017. It was initially kept as a secret, as DoktorApplejuce had frequently expressed his distaste of the source material, and having to watch it in order to write the parody. In a livestream on New Year's eve, the existence of a sequel was accidentally leaked by co-writer for the original episode by Ivan LeRoy.

Trivia[]
- During the recording session with Coffinjockey for the first episode, DoktorApplejuce forgot to ask for battle sounds to use during the fight scene with Rider. As Coffinjockey was attending SakuraCon in Seattle when this was finally noticed, and was therefor unable to record, noises from a Scooby-Doo impression as well as from an impression of Morty from Rick And Morty were used instead.
- Something similar happened again in the second episode, when sounds for a 60's Batman transition were not recorded. Thankfully, BlazingAzureCrow, whom Coffinjockey was visiting at the time, was able to lend his recording studio.
